Define Misnomer Blacks

A term used to describe individuals of Indigenous American descent who were misclassified as “Black” due to colonial-era labeling and racial misclassification.

This designation identifies those whose true Indigenous heritage and identity were obscured, despite their connection to Native American ancestry.

Due to the impacts of genocide and denationalization, these individuals no longer possess a formal nationality tied to their specific Indigenous identity, contributing to the erasure of their heritage.
